Preparing for the uncertain

You never know……….
This time 12 months ago, my family and I had just returned from holidays and were preparing for the new work and school year. We had a fabulous time away together and, frankly, were very relaxed and “did not have a care in the world” (except for going back to school and work). However, what happened in the space of the two weeks that followed, not only turned our family’s world on its head for the next 10 months, but caused us to take stock about ensuring that our estate affairs were in order. This wasn’t just about making sure that our Wills and Powers of Attorney were up to date, which were the first things to come to mind. It also included thinking about whether our financial affairs were appropriately organised, arranging additional help with children to get to and from school, as well as maintaining some form of ‘normality’ for them by ensuring that they were able to continue attending extra curricular activities. It also caused us to take stock of our mental and, of course, our physical wellbeing, making sure we were capable of getting through the difficult journey that lay ahead for us all.
Looking back on 2025, I can only surmise that having good support, be it family, friends, or work colleagues, is vital to surviving difficult times and being able to move on afterwards. Making sure that the ‘admin’ of one’s life is prepared for such situations cannot be understated. In most cases, people tend not to give too much thought to such matters as they tend to be “intangible” and not front of mind. However, the potential impact of not having those so-called “intangible matters” addressed before hard times hit, inevitably causes significant problems and adds so much stress and anxiety to circumstances, when they do.
If you’re going to make any New Years’ resolutions, make sure one of them is getting your “intangible matters” sorted as soon as possible. It doesn’t take much to turn your world on your head. It also doesn’t take much to prepare your affairs for difficult times either. Speak to us about how we can help.
