Here at Tisher Liner FC Law, we are putting ‘One Foot Forward’ for mental health this month. It is our opportunity to show those living with mental illness that they are not alone.

Today, the staff of Tisher Liner FC Law start walking to raise money and awareness for mental health. The money we raise will help the Black Dog Institute provide life-saving support services for those most at risk, and fund research into early detection, prevention and treatment of mental health disorders.

1 in 5 people experience symptoms of mental illness each year. That’s more than 5 million people in Australia. Unfortunately, less than half of all people in Australia suffering from symptoms of mental illness seek professional help. This has tragic consequences – suicide is the leading cause of death in people in Australia aged between 15 and 44 years. 277 people die from suicide every month in Australia alone. A number of our staff are aiming to walk 277kms or more in recognition of this.

COVID-19 has heightened the risk factors typically associated with poor mental health, such as unemployment, financial insecurity, fear, loss of social interaction and physical isolation. Now more than ever, it is important to show people with mental illness that we’re in this together.
